Fulham - Chelsea

Date: 2013/03/09 15:00:00

Rafael Benitezs side have lost six and won just three on their travels since the start of the year and travel to Craven Cottage to face their 10th-placed west London rivals

Fulham midfielder Damien Duff (groin) sustained an injury last time out against Aston Villa and may not be fit enough to start on Wednesday night.

Steve Sidwell serves the last match of his three-game suspension, so Kieran Richardson may well keep his place in the midfield. Otherwise, Martin Jol has no new injury concerns ahead of this game.

Meanwhile, Chelsea defender Ashley Cole (hamstring) is near a recovery although this game may come slightly too soon for the left-back, leaving Ryan Bertrand - who recently recovered from a virus - to deputise again.

Gary Cahill is also returning to full fitness and could make the bench for this game. Otherwise, Rafael Benitez is likely to field a strong side as the Blues look to open up a gap over fellow Champions League qualification rivals Tottenham.

Fulham have seen five own goals scored for them this season, the joint-most in the Premier League alongside Manchester United.

The Cottagers have recovered just five points from losing positions in the league this term.

Fulham have seen their woodwork hit 18 times this season, more than any other team in the top flight.

Martin Jols men have drawn their last five matches against Wednesdays opponents in all competitions.

The hosts last league victory over Chelsea was a 1-0 win in 2005-06 thanks to a goal from Luis Boa Morte (pictured right).

Chelsea are undefeated in their last 14 matches against Fulham in all competitions.

The Blues loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup on Sunday was their first defeat in the competition in 30 matches, excluding penalty shootouts.

Chelsea have not won a game away from home in the Premier League since they beat Stoke City 4-0 on January 12 - and only twice in all competitions in 12 outings.

Manchester City - Aston Villa

Date: 2012/11/17 15:00:00

The champions are the only undefeated side remaining in the league and defend their impressive home record against Paul Lamberts side, who have won just one of their last 13 away

Joleon Lescott looks set to return to the Manchester City side for Saturday’s visit of Aston Villa after recovering from a back injury, while Samir Nasri should make a comeback from illness.

Gael Clichy (back) should be fit to play after withdrawing from the France squad in midweek. James Milner and Jack Rodwell (both hamstring) are pushing for a return, while Matija Nastasic is fighting to recover from a knee knock.

Enda Stevens could keep his place in the Aston Villa side after deputising for the suspended Eric Lichaj against Manchester United last week, while Darren Bent (ankle) is struggling to recover.

Joe Bennett and Chris Herd (both knee) are still sidelined for Villa, with Paul Lambert likely to name the same XI that lost 3-2 to the Red Devils.

Manchester City are unbeaten in the Premier League this season, and haven’t lost at home in the top flight in 35 matches; a run that started with a 4-0 win over Aston Villa in December 2010.

Mario Balotelli (pictured right) has four goals in two Premier League games against Aston Villa, and six in four appearances in all competitions against them.

Joleon Lescott has scored more goals against Villa (five) than against any other Premier League side.

Penalties are a common occurrence in this fixture, with five spot-kicks awarded in their last eight meetings.

City have scored in every one of their last 37 Premier League home games.

Roberto Mancini’s side have won 14 points from losing positions this season; only Manchester United (15) have recovered more.

Before their last away league game – a 1-0 win at Sunderland – Paul Lambert’s side had gone 13 Premier League away games without a win.

Norwich City - West Ham United

Date: 2012/09/15 0:00:00

0 : 0

Having recovered from the 5-0 opening day defeat at Fulham to pick up a couple of creditable draws, the new boss will be hoping to get his first win under his belt at Carrow Road

Winston Reids jet lag after returning from international duty in New Zealand means that James Tomkins should start alongside James Collins in the centre of defence.

Matt Taylors goal and assist in the 3-0 win over Fulham last game should be enough for him to keep his place in the team ahead of record signing Matt Jarvis, who has now returned from a thigh injury.

Meanwhile, George McCartney has recovered from the ankle injury that kept him out the Fulham game, and should start at left-back.

Andy Carrolls hamstring injury on his impressive debut means that Carlton Cole should make his 150th start for the club, despite competition from Modibo Maiga.

Jack Collison returned to training earlier this week after missing three months with a knee injury, but it is still too soon for him to play any part on Saturday.

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton has no fresh injury concerns following the international break, after all of his players returned unscathed.

Russell Martin is fit to start after withdrawing from the Scotland squad with an ankle injury but Elliott Bennett is still absent with a knee injury, and Steven Whittaker is yet to recover from an ankle injury sustained in pre-season.

Norwich have not beaten West Ham since 1994, when a Mark Robins goal gave them a 1-0 win at Carrow Road.

Five of the last six league meetings between the two sides have ended as draws.

The hosts have kept just one clean sheet in their last 17 Premier League games.

No team has had fewer shots on goal than the Canaries  in the league this season (34).

Hughtons men are the only Premier League team yet to pick up a booking.

West Ham picked up more points away from home than any other team in the Championship last season (45).

However, they have won none of their last 14 league trips to Carrow Road (W0 D6 L8), and have lost their last five Premier League games away from home

The Hammers committed more fouls than any other side in the opening three games (45).

Allardyces men netted the highest number of goals from set pieces in the Championship last season (33) and three of their four goals this season have also come from dead balls.

Jussi Jaaskelainen (pictured, right) has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League so far.

Arsenal - Southampton

Date: 2012/09/15 0:00:00

6 : 1

Nigel Adkins men have lost all three of their opening fixtures and face a Gunners side buoyed by their victory over Liverpool prior to the international break

Arsene Wenger faces an agonising wait over the fitness of several key players ahead of his sides clash with Southampton.

Theo Walcott has been ruled out with a virus and is likely to be replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain whilst midfielder Abou Diaby, who was injured on international duty with France, could be a doubt after Didier Deschamps described him as 50/50 to be fit in time after suffering from a small muscular problem.

Wojciech Szczesny looks set to replace Italian goalkeeper Vito Mannone in goal after recovering from injury, but his compatriot Lukasz Fabianski will miss out with a shoulder injury.

For the visitors, club record signing Gaston Ramirez has finally received the all clear to join up with the squad after an issue with international clearance, but may sit on the bench.

Arsenal have scored just two goals in their three Premier League games so far this season, which is the same amount they had scored at this stage last season.
Germany international Lukas Podolski (pictured right), who joined this Arsenal this summer from FC Koln for ?10.9 million, won his 100th cap for his country against Denmark at Euro 2012 at the age of just 27.
The Gunners have drawn their last three home matches in the Premier League. However, they have also kept a clean sheet in all three of their games so far this season.

Arsenal have finished at least fourth in the Premier League in every season since the 1996/97 campaign, winning the Premier League title three times under Arsene Wenger.
Southampton are yet to pick up a point this season in the Premier League, despite having led in two of their three games.
Despite being bottom of the Premier League, the Saints have scored twice as many goals as Arsenal have (four).
The south coast club have twice broken their transfer record this summer. They first signed Jay Rodriguez from Burnley for a fee of ?7m, and then secured a deal for Uruguayan playmaker Gaston Ramirez from Bologna for ?11.8m. Their previous record signing was Rory Delap, who cost ?5.3 million from Derby in 2001.
Southampton have failed to win in any of their last seven encounters away to Arsenal.
And the Championship winners of 2011-12 also need to tighten up at the back, as they have conceded at least two goals in each of their three games this season.

Team News
Everton manager David Moyes will make a late decision on whether to include Kevin Mirallas as the forward has only had a few days training.
Striker Nathan Delfouneso will boost Villa manager Paul Lamberts attacking options, having been cleared to face Everton.

Match Notes
Paul Lamberts first task is to revive Villa in front of their supporters after his predecessor Alex McLeish etched his name into club history for all the wrong reasons. With McLeish managed only four home wins last season, a club record, Lambert urgently needs to cure that stage-fright. Everton, though usually slow starters, made a stunning start to the campaign by beating Manchester United on Monday and will provide stern opposition.

Everton have won none of their last 12 Premier League meetings against Aston Villa, but eight of those games have been draws, including the last six meetings between the sides.

Leon Osman has scored more Premier League goals (5) against Aston Villa than any other team.

Gabriel Agbonlahor has scored more goals against Everton (6) than any other Premier League opponent.

Aston Villa have won just one of their last 13 Premier League home matches and are on a run of 11 league games without a win.(W1 D5 L7).
Aston Villa have failed to score in five of their last seven Premier League matches, netting only once in each of the other two games.
Referee: Michael Oliver. Matches (last season): 29, Red 4, Yellow 84.
Stat of the game: Everton have failed to win their last seven Premier League matches at Villa Park.

Chelsea - Reading

4 : 2

Both teams prepare for this clash on the back of positive opening results in their first league match of the season - the hosts beat Wigan while the visitors drew with Stoke City

Roberto Di Matteo has a relatively unhindered squad although there are numerous question marks over who will start and where.
Marko Marin was absent (hamstring) from the Blues’ first game away to Wigan and is unlikely to return as quickly as midweek. Ramires (illness) was another who missed the game at the DW Stadium but will more than likely slot into the first team at Ryan Bertrand’s expense.

Oscar will hope to make the move from substitute to starting line-up but it might be too soon for the Brazilian playmaker. Di Matteo seems to have settled on David Luiz and John Terry as the centre-back partnership for now meaning Gary Cahill will probably watch from the bench.

Reading’s only injured player is midfielder Jimmy Kebe (hamstring), whom manager Brain McDermott has confirmed will miss the start of the season. Striker Jason Roberts will serve the final match of his ban for a red card received back in April when the club were still in the Championship.

The Royals manager might choose to take Pavel Pogrebnyak out of the side in place of an extra midfielder, in which case Garath McCleary - who won the penalty which allowed the side to bring the scores level in the 90th minute this weekend - could get the nod.

Chelsea did not have a good pre-season heading into this Premier League campaign. They had lost their previous three games in a row, before beating Wigan, including a 3-1 loss away to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Branislav Ivanovic and Frank Lampard (pictured right) scored the goals that gave Roberto Di Matteo’s a win in their first game of the season against the Latics

Fernando Torres will be a key figure for the Champions League winners this campaign as the club adjusts to life without Didier Drogba. The ?50 million striker will want to average higher than the one goal he scored for every 318 minutes he spent on the pitch during last season’s league matches.

The west London team beat all three of the promoted teams in the prior season at home, though each side managed to get onto the scoresheet in the 90 minutes.
Reading have won eight of their last 11 league matches away from the Madejski Stadium.

The Blues, on the other hand, have won nine of their last 11 competitive ties at Stamford Bridge.

Ryan Bertrand, who started Chelsea’s game against the Latics on Sunday, spent a season on loan with the Royals in the 2009-10 season. He came third in the club’s voting for Player of the Season. The winner? New Tottenham signing Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Reading have never beaten the Blues in a competitive match away from home in nine attempts. The last time Wednesday’s visitors conquered Chelsea in a league match was way back in November 1926

Arsenal - Sunderland

After the Dutchmans transfer to Manchester United, the north London club begin the new season hopeful of success against a Sunderland side hungry for a good start of their own

Arsenal begin their post-Robin Van Persie era against Sunderland and are likely to start with Olivier Giroud in attack, supported by Theo Walcott, who is a slight doubt due to an injury that cost him his involvement in this weeks England friendly, and Lukas Podolski.

Mikel Arteta is doubtful with an injury, but may make the bench, while Bacary Sagna is out until September with a broken leg.

Laurent Koscielny should recover in time to be considered for selection but Per Mertesacker is waiting in reserve if the former is not passed fit. Tomas Rosicky has a calf injury so Aaron Ramsey could start but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been ruled out.

The Black Cats have a few injury problems at the back, with Wes Brown and Phil Bardsley both out for a few weeks, and Michael Turner having joined Norwich.

They have new signing Louis Saha available after he signed on Thursday, and the Frenchman could go straight into attack. Stephane Sessegnon should feature despite struggling with a foot problem, but David Vaughan is sidelined.

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 11 opening day fixtures, but this is the first time they have started their season at home since 2008, when they beat West Brom 1-0 thanks to a Samir Nasri goal.

Since the Premier League began, Arsenal have won 12 and lost just three of their fixtures on the opening day, but their first ever game in the league was a 4-2 defeat against Norwich City in 1992.

Nicklas Bendtner spent last season on loan with Sunderland, scoring eight goals in 28 appearances and cementing his place in the Denmark national team.

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is eligible to play international football for both England and Finland due to having a Finnish mother, but despite having been offered a full international cap by the Nordic country, he is as yet undecided.

The Gunners have lost just one of their last 17 league games against Sunderland, that game being a 1-0 away defeat on November 21st 2009 when they went down to a Darren Bent goal in the 71st minute.

Sunderland boss Martin ONeill (pictured right) has only tasted victory once against Arsene Wenger as a manager, that win being Aston Villa’s 2-0 triumph at the Emirates in November 2008..

Last season, 28% of the goals Sunderland conceded were from headers, the highest proportion of all teams in the Premier League.

Black Cats midfielder Sebastian Larsson began his career in English football as a trainee with Arsenal, but made just three appearances for the club’s first team before joining Birmingham City permanently after a successful loan spell at St. Andrews.

Sunderland did not enjoy a particularly successful season, winning just one of their six friendlies, that being their 3-2 victory over Dutch side FC Groningen in the Peace Cup.

Ji Dong-Won was part of the South Korean Olympic squad that won the bronze medal, scoring against Great Britain in the quarter finals.
